Northern European Paganism is an umbrella term embracing both ancient Celtic and ancient Germanic traditions. It is not generally used to refer to a modern tradition, as these are culture-specific (see Druidry and Heathenry), as were their ancient prototypes.
It could be argued that the distinction between Celtic and Germanic tribes was one imposed by the Romans, and therefore the similarities between these traditions are more important than the differences, but nevertheless, there are distinct traditions based on these categories among contemporary Paganisms, although some of their practitioners also communicate with deities from the other category.
