In the context of ritual magic, evocation is the art of calling forth spirits. In the context of Wicca, it refers to the calling of the quarters (Earth, Air, Fire and Water) in the cardinal directions (North, East, South and West), a practice which is itself derived from the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram.
